Here’s the thing: we all know that when a new movie is coming out, especially those with blockbuster actors in it, like Tom Cruise, Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Emma Stone, Gwynneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, etc. that these are going to be advertised all over the place.
Normally, the system of advertising is that the producers choose a set of 3 or 4 clips that are extremely funny, dramatic, action filled, or suspense creating (depending on the genre of the film) and send those to the broadcasting companies to air in their paid for time-slots. Then the primary starts, e.g. the big name actors, go out to local talk shows and late night talk shows to promote the movie.
Pretty standard stuff. And it works. How many people saw The Interview? Millions. Why? Because it was taboo and there was a lot of hoopla about it being dangerous for the cinema economy, and to be frank, who doesn’t love seeing James Franco and Seth Rogen being stupid?
Why is this important to you? Well, these advertising schemes are why you go and see these movies. If you did not know that a movie was coming out, and that your favorite actors were in it, there is no way that you would actually go see that movie. Take this one for example of a live shot from the filming of Daddy’s Home: Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell team up for a second time to produce another comedy that looks to be hilarious.
After seeing this clip, and knowing that it was shot for a movie, aren’t you the least bit interested in seeing this film? I know I am. I love Will Ferrell. He’s a brilliant comic, and seeing him throw a basketball in a cheerleaders face and get escorted out of the stadium is right up the alley of crass, stupid humour that appeals the adolescent in all males, and many women.
Are you going to see Daddy’s Home and does this clip have anything to do with it?
