In 2015, Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele ended their Comedy Central series Key and Peele after five seasons of work and success. In the comedic community that means a lot for any actor. Especially minority actors. After, Jordan Peele has been working on more projects. He has been seen on Modern family and heard on the popular animated comedy Rick and Morty. But the real evolution is his activity behind the camera.

We see a primarily comedy oriented actor most times with Jordan. The former Mad TV cast member has always had his hand in laughter. What we don’t often get to see though, is that the acting community is an art community and many people have contributions to make in multiple pots. Get Out was 2017’s most surprising content from a comedy writer. He tackled social issues while also writing a horror thriller. This is a film that makes people think about social and racial issues, while also not being so heavy that it makes you feel smothered. I am sure you can find some humor in the film but it is a maze of fear that makes people think.

The kicker is that it was so well received that Jordan actually was awarded an Oscar this year for best original screen play. His creation dominated the Oscar nominations and aside from his cat kidnap movie, Keneau, it was his first real attempt at a screenplay. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I think we can see that comedy, while entertaining, doesn’t mean that you can’t see something different and do it right. Get Out hit on a lot of peoples’ nerves and made them think about “old fashioned” values.

Jordan Peele inadvertently started a movement where moving from one section of the art world to the other is a very real possibility. Making people laugh and making them cry are not that far apart. Like Taco Bell suddenly succeeding in selling fries instead of tacos, Jordan has shined a light on a diversifying path that hopefully, other creative minds can follow.

Dog owners in America are becoming more and more protective of their fur babies than ever before. Sometimes helicopter parenting can be seen as a bad thing, but it hard to argue with those big black eyes and wiggly tongues. Florida is a warm state with almost constant outside weather. Dogs need to stretch their legs and there is more than one way to do that.

Dog parks are a fun and usually free venue to get that experience. But is it really worth it if you go to a small place and there are no friends for your pooch to play with? Pinellas has many parks, but many are also small, decrepit and empty.

So now imagine a park that is larger than 3 football fields, full of vibrant foliage and entrenched with automatic filling bowls. If you want to trek through the Jurassic Park of dog parks then please visit Enterprise Dog Park, http://www.myclearwaterparks.com/facilities/facilities-amenities-locator/enterprise-dog-park#ad-image-10.

This is a place that locals know, but others don’t. I live 30 minutes away yet I still drive my dog there every week. Almost always full to the brim with dogs, this place gives you a great opportunity to socialize your animal and help them burn off some steam. There is no shortage of amenities; they have bags for cleaning everywhere and water stations for thirsty pups. There is even an area that is separated by fences that has obstacle and training courses for your dog as well.

This location is also a stone’s throw from Safety Harbor’s Main street. This is an incredibly dog friendly location with many businesses offering outside seating for pet owners. They also have an event literally every weekend that invite people to come to the streets and explore the local products and culture, pets in hand.

Enterprise Dog Park is worth a visit. It is free to visit and also offers a plethora of advertisements for dog events, and lets you know what animals might need a happy home, or who is looking to find someone missing.

A long time ago, the idea of eating uncooked food made some people curl over.  The original sushi in Japan was actually just vinegar rice preserving fish in ships on the sea.  Flash forward to 2018 and raw fish, or sushi, has become so “in”, its difficult to imagine a different time.  The hardest thing about finding quality sushi is probably location. Florida has an amazing advantage in that they can bring you actual fresh fish at a price you can afford.  So where can we go?

Chains have been around forever but that doesn’t mean they are places to avoid.  Hooks Sushi and Thai Food in St. Pete brings you all the sushi mainstays that you expect and also offers some other fun Asian fusion choices.  They are open late and are easy to find.

Venture further into Palm Harbor and you might run into Mike’s Sushi. This is a small venue sandwiched between a MacDonald’s and another sandwich shop, so maybe it doesn’t look pretty outside, but I lived in Japan, and my wife was born there, and she swears by this joint.  It is the closest thing to home she can find; I even took her parents there. Even if you don’t love raw fish, they have some amazing grill options, meat and fish. The original Mike was trained in Japan so you know it is authentic and it’s delicious.

Now, if you want customer service, I would head to Ichiban in downtown Saint Petersburg. Prices are sound and people are incredibly kind.  You don’t feel like a rushed table or a person who doesn’t matter. The fun thing here is your waiter will actually talk to you and make you aware of what’s the best fish to go for today. Manners maketh man, and this is the place to go for that. It’s a fun location to take a trip to when relaxing downtown.

I think we all know that delicious and expensive go side by side. Sushi falls in line with that train of thought so it’s always fun  to find a venue that lets you eat at a price you can afford. This is where the Courtside Grill in St. Petersburg truly shines. They are a sports bar with nachos and burgers, yet they have grasped how to run a delectable sushi menu as well.  Again, my Japanese wife approves, and we honestly end up there every Saturday night. Why? This location offers HALF OFF all sushi from 9pm until close on Friday and Saturday. It is amazing to walk out with $100 worth of sushi for the same bill pasta would have cost us elsewhere. It doesn’t hurt that it tastes amazing too.

Sushi has been booming more and more in the U.S. And it will probably grow even more popular over time.  In an ocean local state, you need to take advantage of any of these wonderful locations and get yourself a bite to eat.  Don’t forget that we are looking at cuisine from the country with the longest life expectancy in the world. It can’t hurt to take a page from their book and try something fun and new.
